History

Mathakaragola, A renowned village of Bhuban Block in Kamakhyanagar sub division of Dhenkanal district in the state of Odisha maintains a rich cultural heritage and spiritual tradition. In the field of politics it has played a pivotal roll both in district and state level. In spite of his large area and vast population, it had no institution of higher learning until 1986. By the sincere efforts of some enthusiastic noble souls of this area the long cherished dream of the people blossomed into reality by the decision for establishment of this college in the eve of PRATHAMASTAMI on 25th November 1986.

Sri Ghanashyam Dash, Late Dr. Radhanath Mishra (Ex Principal, VSS Medical College, Burla) and Sri Krupasagar Sahoo, IRTS did the spade work of the College. Late Kanhu Charan Nayak, Late Dhusasan Parida, Late Digambar Nayak, Sri Batakrishna Parida, Sri Prasanna Kumar Panigrahi, Sri Harihar Singh, Sri Gangadhar Sahoo, Late Shiba Charan Sahoo, Late Krushna Mohan Mishra and Late Dasarathi Nayak played active roles in giving a real shape to the concept of a college at Mathakaragola. Late Sridhar Parida, Sri Natabara Sahoo, Late Rajakishore Parida and many others worked hard for the growth of the college. The college started functioning under the Principalship of Sri Dinabandhu Sahoo who have left the college in 1990 then Sri Hrushikesh Sahoo and Late Hemanta Kumar Behera continued the post till 1996. Since 1996 the college was running under the dynamic Principalship of Sri Madan Mohan Baral till 2016 and took over by Sri Chittaranjan Dash from the date and is continuing its governance under the able Administration of him.

The foundation stone of the college was laid in the auspicious day of SHREE GUNDICHA on 6th July 1987 by Late Kanhu Charan Nayak, Freedom fighter and the then Sarapanch of Mathakaragola. On the one end of Mathakaragola stands the glorious temple of LORD MAULABHANAJA while on the other flows the river RAMIALA. The college is adjacent to NH-53 joining Kamakhyanagar-J.K. Road.

Due to the sincere and selfless effort of the Governing Body, the Arts and Commerce faculty open in the year 1987-88. The Arts faculty got its recognition from Govt. of Odisha during the year 1987-88 and got affiliated to Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha in the same year. The commerce faculty got its recognition and affiliation during the year 1989-90. The science stream was opened in the year 1995-96 and got its recognition and affiliation during the year 1997-98. The real growth for this college has been phenomenal over the years. The degree wing i.e. +3 Arts opened and recognized by Govt. of Odisha in the year 1989-90 and affiliated to Utkal University during the same year. Then +3 Commerce Stream got Govt. concurrence during the year 1993-94. The college got permanent recognition from Govt. of Odisha during the session 2003-04 in +2 Arts with 224 seats, +2 Science with 128 seats, +2 Commerce with 64 seats and +3 Arts with 160 seats with honours in ECO(32), Hist (32) , Edu(24) , Odia(24) , Pol. Sc. (16), Phil.(16)and English(16) , +3 Commerce with 64 seats(Hons.). +3 Science with 128 seats having honours in Phy(24), Chem(32), Math(24), Bot(24) and Zool.(24). The Honours facility was introduced during 2003-04 in Economics, History and Accounting with Govt. concurrence and affiliation from Utkal University. Also there is Vocational Education at +2 level with 24 seats each in the subjects EDA & Computer Technique. The college started functioning with 76 students on its rule and there were just 08 teachers at the initial stage. Today there are 1800 students, 38 teachers and 26 non teaching staff members in the college. The college extends over an area of 11.63 acres. The college is recognized and registered under section 2(f) & 12B of the UGC Act during the year 2013-14 by University Grant Commission, New Delhi. The College has been accredited by NAAC with ‘B’ grade in its first Cycle in 2016.

The establishment of the college not only added new dimensions to the aspirations of the people of the area but it has also facilitated the spared of education to every corner of the district and beyond this district too. It imparts a high standard of teaching to the boys and girls drawn from the rural area. Academic excellence is the motto of a galaxy of highly qualified and experienced teachers of this college. At present 03 recognized mess facilities are available for students from distance places. The college has a well furnished library with reference books, leading journals, magazines and news papers to cater the need of the students and teachers.

The students of this college are sincere, honest and have proved their academic excellence. Besides curricular, the college also earned reputation in the field of co curricular activities perform at the college and inter college level. In the field of games and sports the students of this institution have been participating in the inter college, inter university and interstate events. Each year we have been able to produce national players.

The college enjoys the status of an ideal institution headed by the dynamic President of the Governing body and efficient Principal and equally co operative and sympathetic staff members and the obedient students.
